Dar, Lavrov Discuss Rescheduling PM Shehbaz’s Russia Visit

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday, during which both sides discussed rescheduling Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s postponed visit to Moscow.

The prime minister had earlier called off his planned trip to Russia amid heightened regional tensions following the US-Israel attack on Iran, according to the Prime Minister’s Office. Russian media had reported that the visit was initially scheduled for early March.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said the two leaders emphasized the importance of sustained high-level engagement and agreed to explore new dates for the visit at a mutually convenient time.

Beyond the scheduling issue, the discussion also covered bilateral ties and cooperation at multilateral platforms, particularly in support of global peace and security.

Lavrov commended Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States, the statement added.

During the call, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting diplomacy and dialogue as key tools for resolving international issues. He also invited his Russian counterpart to visit Pakistan.

Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries, the Foreign Office concluded.
