At least three people, including prominent tribal elder and Ahmadzai Wazir tribe chief Malik Tariq Wazir, were killed and four others injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Wana on Monday morning, officials said.
According to District Police Officer Mohammad Tahir Shah Wazir, the explosion took place near Gulshan Plaza in the busy Rustam Bazaar area while Malik Tariq Wazir’s vehicle was passing through the market.
Police said unidentified militants had allegedly planted explosive material near the plaza during the night, which detonated in the morning hours. The powerful blast killed three people on the spot and left four others wounded.
Following the attack, security personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace those responsible.
Local residents and rescue teams shifted the bodies and injured victims to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for treatment and legal procedures.
The incident comes amid a continued rise in militancy and violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where attacks have increased significantly since 2021.
