Iran-US Talks Under Islamabad MoU Will Usher in Regional Peace, PM Sharif

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has declared that the technical-level talks between Iran and the United States under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding will usher in a new era of peace, stability, and prosperity across the region. Speaking alongside visiting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad, the Prime Minister expressed relief that a war which could have engulfed the entire region has come to an end.

“It is a matter of great pleasure that the war has come to an end which could have engulfed the entire region and beyond,” PM Sharif said. He emphasized that Pakistan and Iran are far more than neighbours; they are brothers bound together by centuries of shared history, faith, culture, and civilization. The Prime Minister thanked the Iranian leadership for reposing trust in Islamabad to initiate and mediate the peace process, a role Pakistan executed with “fullest honesty.”

PM Sharif paid glowing tribute to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Ali Khamenei, whose wisdom and sagacity guided the Iranian people through this challenging period. He also lauded the Iranian nation for demonstrating unity, honour, and dignity throughout the crisis. “The courage and endurance displayed by Iranian brothers and sisters during this crisis has been inspiring,” he added.

The Prime Minister commended both the Iranian and US delegations for their serious and constructive participation in talks held in Switzerland. He acknowledged the support of several brotherly countries, including Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, for their sincere efforts in resolving the crisis.

PM Sharif also highlighted the dedicated efforts of Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar in the mediating process. He stressed that Pakistan and Iran have consistently stood by each other in difficult times, and recent events have reaffirmed the enduring strength of their brotherhood and partnership.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian echoed these sentiments, describing Pakistan not just as a neighbour but a brotherly country with deep historical, cultural, and religious bonds. He invited friendly countries to establish a common understanding and build a new security structure for the region. The Iranian President noted that Iran’s acceptance of Pakistan’s initiative for dialogue reflects the ancient trust between the two nations.

Pezeshkian added that he had constructive meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, during which they discussed regional developments and bilateral relations. He underscored that the conducive environment between Pakistan and Iran paves the way for a peaceful and prosperous region.
