Pakistan Military Leadership Reaffirms Resolve to Defend Sovereignty and Water Rights

The 276th Corps Commanders’ Conference was held at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi under the chairmanship of Syed Asim Munir, in his capacities as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). The forum paid tribute to the martyrs of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and civilians, reaffirming that their sacrifices are central to Pakistan’s security and unity. It also reviewed the country’s security situation and expressed confidence in the operational preparedness and combat readiness of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

The forum voiced concern over the use of territory controlled by the Afghan Taliban by militant groups, including Fitna al Khawarij (FAK) and Fitna al Hindustan (FAH), which it described as being supported by India to carry out attacks inside Pakistan. It stated that lasting regional peace depends on preventing Afghan territory from being used by such groups and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continuing intelligence-based counterterrorism operations under Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq. Alongside military efforts, the forum emphasized the need to strengthen governance, improve public services, and dismantle the nexus between terrorism and organized crime.

The conference also noted what it described as an increasing reliance on hybrid warfare, including disinformation campaigns and proxy activities, following Pakistan’s success in Mark-e-Haq. It reiterated that Pakistan would continue to counter such threats while maintaining its commitment to regional dialogue, peaceful conflict resolution, adherence to international law, and cooperation on shared security challenges.

On the Indus Waters Treaty, the forum reaffirmed its support for the government’s position and pledged to take all necessary measures to secure Pakistan’s rightful share of water. It also condemned alleged human rights violations and demographic changes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating Pakistan’s diplomatic, political, and moral support for the Kashmir cause and calling for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Asim Munir directed commanders to accelerate the armed forces’ multi-domain transformation plan in response to the evolving nature of warfare. He stressed the importance of maintaining the highest standards of vigilance, operational readiness, and professional excellence to effectively address conventional, sub-conventional, and hybrid threats while safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and national interests.
