The aftermath of a Somalia pirate attack reached Pakistani soil on Sunday as four injured nationals and the bodies of three deceased Pakistanis arrived in Karachi from Ethiopia aboard a private flight, ARY News reported.
The bodies were brought to the cargo terminal of Jinnah International Airport, where they will be transported to the victims’ homes by ambulance. The four injured Pakistanis are expected to be shifted from the airport to a hospital for medical treatment.
The deceased have been identified as third engineer Mahmood Ansari, second officer Kashif Umar and Rafiullah Khan. The four injured were named as Ameen bin Shams, Aqeel Khan, Yasir Khan and Usman Ghani.
The attack, which occurred in Somali waters, has left families and colleagues mourning the loss of the three men while awaiting the recovery of the injured. The arrival of the special flight from Ethiopia marked the first step in bringing the victims back to Pakistan after the maritime tragedy.
Funeral arrangements have been announced for the deceased. The funeral prayer of officer Mahmood Ansari will be offered today after Maghrib prayers in FB Area. The funeral prayer of second officer Kashif Umar will be held tomorrow after Zuhr prayers. Rafiullah Khan’s funeral prayer will be offered today in Manora.
The injured Pakistanis, who survived the Somalia pirate attack, are expected to receive urgent medical care upon being shifted to a hospital. Their condition was not immediately disclosed.
The repatriation was carried out via a private flight from Ethiopia, underscoring the logistical challenges in returning citizens from a region grappling with maritime security threats. The bodies were received at the airport’s cargo terminal before being handed over to grieving families.
