Security forces killed four terrorists in an operation conducted in Balochistan’s Panjgur district, security sources said on Monday, marking the latest in a string of counter-militancy operations across the restive province. The operation in Panjgur district targeted Aphan-e-Koh and Prom areas after forces received intelligence about the presence of India-backed militants, according to the sources.
During the raid, security personnel engaged the militants in an intense exchange of fire, resulting in the deaths of all four terrorists, the sources said. A large cache of sophisticated weapons and ammunition was recovered from the killed militants, they added. The sources further stated that security forces will continue operations until the last terrorist is eliminated, signalling an open-ended commitment to clearing militant hideouts in the region.
The Panjgur district operation comes just a day after security forces foiled an attempt by terrorists to disrupt public movement on the N-25 highway near Kalat, killing five militants and safely recovering 23 hostages. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the terrorists had established a checkpoint on the highway to abduct people, extort money and seize vehicles. Security forces responded promptly and killed five terrorists during the operation, while a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives was also recovered from the militants’ hideout. Six trucks, three buses and two cars were recovered from the site, the ISPR said.
The same day, security forces killed eight militants while six Pakistan Army personnel embraced martyrdom during an exchange of fire in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district, according to the military’s media wing. The ISPR said the exchange of fire took place between a security forces convoy and Fitna al-Khawarij in Hangu district. It said eight terrorists were killed due to effective engagement by the troops. During the intense fire exchange, the ISPR said six security personnel, including Captain Abuzar Farooq and Lieutenant Sheraz Babar, who were leading their troops from the front, fought gallantly and embraced martyrdom.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, since 2021, when the Afghan Taliban came into power. The latest operations underscore the persistent threat posed by militant networks operating along the country’s western border regions and the military’s ongoing efforts to counter them. Security sources reiterated that operations would continue until the last terrorist is eliminated, a pledge that has become a recurring refrain in official statements following successive raids.
The Panjgur district operation reflects the continuing volatility in Balochistan, where security forces have intensified intelligence-based raids against what officials describe as India-backed militant outfits.
