China has expressed deep concern over the recent surge in violence following an attack by Hamas on Israel.
They have emphasized that the ongoing stagnation of the peace process in the region is unsustainable and have reaffirmed their support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
In an official statement released on Sunday, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry called on all parties involved to exercise restraint and immediately implement a ceasefire to prevent further escalation.
The statement underlined that a fundamental solution to prevent the recurrence of conflicts between Palestine and Israel lies in the pursuit of a “two-state solution.”China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has been increasingly proactive in addressing Israeli-Palestinian issues and expanding its influence in the Middle East.
In a significant move, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas visited China in June and held talks with President Xi Jinping. The Palestine crisis was the main agenda of the meeting between the two leaders.
During the meeting, President Xi proposed the idea of convening an international peace conference aimed at resolving the long-standing conflict in the region. The conference was proposed to find practical solutions to the conflict with a strategic framework for the implementation of the proposed agenda with an international consensus.
The two state solution to Palestine Israel conflict was proposed in 1937. The proposal for the creation of two independent sovereign states of Israel and Palestine was given at that time.
