Pakistan Asks Kenya To Investigate Arshad Sharif Case

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar asked Kenyan President Dr. William Ruto for help in wrapping up the investigation into the tragic death of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif. Arshad Sharif, a respected journalist and news anchor, met his unfortunate end on October 23, 2022, while in Kenya.

This discussion happened during a meeting on the sidelines of the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, China. The two leaders met at the side lines of the forum today.

During their meeting, Prime Minister Kakar and President Ruto talked about cooperating in various areas and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening relations in trade, investment, education, and people-to-people interactions.

Recently, Kenyan Crime and Investigative journalist Nyaboga Kiage claimed that the five Kenyan policemen involved in Arshad Sharif’s killing resumed their official duties without facing any consequences. Nyaboga reported that some of the officers involved in assassination were promoted after they returned to their jobs.

The Prime Minister’s Office officially stated that “The caretaker prime minister requested the Kenyan president’s assistance in finalizing the report from the Special Joint Investigation Team regarding the murder of the late Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif.”

A JIT as mentioned in the statement above was formulated by the former government. Supreme Court of Pakistan was monitoring the activities and reports of the special investigating team.

Arshad Sharif was a prominent investigative journalist from Pakistan who was assassinated by Kenyan Death Squads on October 23, 2022. It’s been almost a year since his tragic death, and his family is still waiting for justice. Arshad Sharif left Pakistan in August of the previous year due to sedition charges filed against him by the government of Shehbaz Sharif.
