During an emergency joint Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan took aim at Western countries, criticizing their conspicuous silence regarding the ongoing massacre in Palestine.
Expressing his dismay, Erdogan remarked, “It is disheartening that Western nations, known for championing human rights and freedoms, choose silence in the face of the tragic events unfolding in Palestine.”
Erdogan went on to highlight the unprecedented level of barbarism witnessed in history, where not only have hospitals, schools, and refugee camps been subjected to bombing, but civilians have also fallen victim to mass atrocities.
Underlining the urgency of the situation, the Turkish President emphasized the necessity of delivering fuel to critical locations, with a particular focus on hospitals in Gaza. Proposing a tangible solution, Erdogan suggested the establishment of a dedicated fund within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation aimed at the reconstruction of Gaza, recognizing the imperative need for swift action and collaborative efforts in the aftermath of the devastating events.
The oil-abundant kingdom is currently playing host to a summit that brings together the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
During this summit, representatives from the Islamic world are engaging in discussions to formulate concrete measures in response to recent developments.
The backdrop to these deliberations is the series of relentless air and ground assaults launched by Israel on the Gaza Strip. These attacks, which commenced following a cross-border incident involving the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on October 7, have targeted various areas, including hospitals, residences, and places of worship.The grim toll of this conflict is stark.
The Palestinian casualties have reached a devastating figure of at least 11,078, comprising 4,506 children and 3,027 women, which constitutes 90% of the Casualties. In contrast, the Israeli death toll stands at approximately 1,200, according to official statistics.
