A Chinese official has accused the United States of plotting against the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Chief Khalid Mansoor. Pakistan has accused the United States of conniving in cahoots with India against the economic lifeline of Pakistan. The United States supported by India is inimical to CPEC and will not let it succeed, Mansoor Ahmed said.

Many Western think tanks and commentators have termed CPEC an economic trap that has already resulted in public debt levels and disproportionately high Chinese influence in the domestic economy.

The United States and India are trying to “maneuver Pakistan out of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Mansoor Ahmad has said. The Western powers view CPEC as a symbol of China’s political ambition, he said.

On Saturday, the Foreign Office (FO) stated in response to a CNN report, clarifying that Pakistan has no deal with the US to allow it to use its airspace for airstrikes in Afghanistan.

The counterstatement was issued hours after the CNN report, which claimed that the Biden Administration had informed the US lawmakers about the nearing deal with Pakistan to use its airspace for military operations to be conducted in Afghanistan. The report cited three different sources which were aware of the details of the classified briefing.

Further, the report argued that Pakistan has expressed its willingness to sign a Memorandum of Understanding in return for help in Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations and managing the relationship with India.

However, the FO spokesman, Asim Iftikhar, clarified that “No such understanding is in place” and that “Pakistan and the US have longstanding cooperation on regional security and counterterrorism and the two sides remain engaged in regular consultations.”

The ten envoys were summoned by Turkish Foreign Minister on Tuesday. Kavala has faced a string of alternating charges linked to 2013 anti-government protests and a failed coup.

The US, Germany, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, and Sweden called for a “just and speedy resolution”.
