PTI Raises Alarm Over Health of Imran Khan, Warns of Risk to Eyesight

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the health of its jailed founder Imran Khan. The party said he was suffering from a medical condition that could permanently damage his eyesight if not treated promptly.

In a statement posted on X, PTI said it had received credible reports about Khan’s condition. The party demanded unrestricted access for Khan to meet his family and close associates. It also called for his treatment at a hospital of his own choice.

PTI said media reports indicated that doctors had diagnosed Khan with central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye. The condition involves a dangerous blockage in the retinal vein, the statement said.

According to the party, medical experts who examined Khan in jail described the illness as extremely serious. PTI said delayed or improper treatment carried a high risk of permanent vision loss.

The party accused jail authorities of refusing to allow treatment outside prison. It said the jail administration insisted on providing care inside the jail despite doctors stating that proper treatment required an operation theatre and specialised medical facilities.

PTI said the attending specialist had clearly advised that such treatment could not take place inside the jail. The party described the authorities’ stance as reckless and said it placed Khan’s eyesight and overall health in grave danger.

The statement said Khan last met his personal physician in October 2024. It added that authorities had barred the doctor from examining him since then despite orders from the Islamabad High Court.

PTI termed the situation a clear violation of court orders and fundamental human rights. It also noted that a petition seeking regular medical check-ups for Khan had remained pending since August 2025.

The party accused the government of deliberately ignoring the petition. It alleged that political vendetta had taken priority over the life and health of a prisoner.

PTI demanded immediate, unrestricted meetings between Khan and his family. It said such access would reassure the public about his condition.

The party also demanded that Khan be transferred without delay to Shaukat Khanum Hospital or another hospital of his choice. It said he required treatment under qualified specialists with full medical facilities.

PTI urged the judiciary to treat the issue as a matter of health and human life. It called for immediate action to prevent negligence or delay in Khan’s care.

The statement warned that the government and Adiala jail administration would bear responsibility if Khan suffered permanent eyesight damage.

Separately, Shaukat Khanum Hospital issued a statement expressing grave concern over Khan’s health. The hospital requested immediate access for its medical team to participate in his treatment.

The hospital said such access would help reassure those concerned about Khan’s welfare.
