A delegation from Hamas is scheduled to meet Egyptian mediators in Cairo on Sunday to discuss what the group says are repeated violations of the Gaza ceasefire by Israel.
According to two Hamas officials, the meeting will focus on efforts to halt alleged Israeli breaches of the truce and ensure implementation of the remaining provisions of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, one official said the Hamas delegation would stress the need for Israel to fully comply with the terms of the agreement. The group is expected to demand an end to all violations, the removal of Israeli military positions from Gaza, and the complete reopening of border crossings.
Hamas is also likely to call for an increase in the number of travellers allowed to cross the borders and a significant expansion of humanitarian aid deliveries into the enclave.
In addition, the delegation is expected to discuss the entry of a United States-backed administrative body composed of Palestinian technocrats to take over governance responsibilities in Gaza as part of broader efforts to stabilise the territory.
