Pakistan security forces have foiled a Chaman infiltration attempt by Afghan Taliban forces along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, ARY News reported on Friday, citing security sources. The incident occurred in the Chaman sector, where Pakistani troops responded to what sources described as provocative firing from across the border and thwarted an alleged effort to enter Pakistani territory.
According to the security sources, the timely and effective response by Pakistani forces resulted in several casualties among Afghan Taliban personnel. The sources further claimed that Pakistani forces carried out a retaliatory operation that destroyed several posts belonging to the Afghan Taliban authorities. The operation was described as a direct response to the alleged infiltration bid and cross-border firing.
The sources said Pakistani troops remain prepared to respond to any attempt at infiltration into Pakistan from Afghan territory. The foiled Chaman infiltration attempt underscores the continuing tensions along the porous border, where Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns about militant activity and cross-border attacks.
The incident follows a broader escalation between the two sides. Earlier, Pakistan conducted precision aerial and drone strikes against military targets at 10 locations in Afghanistan in response to a drone incursion from Afghan territory, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said. In a statement posted on X, Tarar said Pakistan’s air defence systems had detected, tracked and neutralised eight drones that had entered its airspace from Afghanistan a day earlier, before they could reach their intended targets. He strongly condemned what he described as a deliberate and unlawful incursion from Afghan territory, saying it constituted a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and added that Islamabad had exercised its right to self-defence in response.
Tarar said Pakistan subsequently conducted precision aerial and drone strikes against 10 locations in Afghanistan that were used for launching and storing the drones. According to the minister, the strikes were deliberate, precise, calibrated and proportionate and were limited to identified military objectives directly linked to the attempted attacks against Pakistan. He said Pakistan had repeatedly conveyed its concerns to the Afghan Taliban regime and its interlocutors over the continued presence of terrorist sanctuaries and support networks on Afghan soil. Instead of dismantling those networks and taking credible and verifiable action against groups operating from Afghan territory, Tarar said, the Afghan Taliban authorities had escalated the situation through hostile drone operations.
Pakistan will neither accept nor tolerate attacks launched from Afghan territory, whether by terrorist groups or by the Afghan Taliban regime itself, Tarar said. The statement reflects Islamabad’s hardening position as cross-border incidents multiply.
The Chaman infiltration attempt is the latest in a series of security incidents along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Pakistani officials have consistently maintained that militant sanctuaries on Afghan soil pose a direct threat to national security, while the Afghan Taliban authorities have not publicly responded to the latest allegations. The situation remains tense, with Pakistani forces on high alert in the border region.
