ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday strongly rejected what it termed “baseless allegations and propaganda” by India linking it to the April 2025 Pahalgam attack, and called on New Delhi to avoid actions that could undermine ongoing peace efforts in the region.
In a statement, the Foreign Office of Pakistan said it was “deplorable” that India had once again attempted to associate Pakistan with the incident at a time when Islamabad, along with international partners, is engaged in diplomatic efforts to promote regional and global stability.
The response came after remarks by the Indian Army on the anniversary of the attack, which killed 26 tourists in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has consistently denied any involvement and previously called for an independent and impartial investigation into the incident.
Tensions between the two countries escalated sharply following the attack, with India launching strikes inside Pakistan. Islamabad responded militarily, leading to a brief conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbours before a ceasefire was brokered by the United States in May last year.
The Foreign Office criticised India for continuing what it described as a pattern of “false narratives” for domestic political purposes, adding that such claims cannot divert attention from the situation in Kashmir or broader regional concerns.
The statement also accused India of undermining peace through “inflammatory rhetoric” and “aggressive posturing,” including its unilateral move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, which Pakistan says violates international law.
Islamabad urged the international community to encourage India to act responsibly and refrain from steps that could disrupt diplomatic efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability.
A day earlier, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had also criticised India for failing to provide credible evidence to support its allegations, reiterating Pakistan’s stance that the claims remain unsubstantiated.
