HANGU: Eight terrorists were killed and six security personnel were martyred during an exchange of fire in Hangu district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.
According to the military’s media wing, an exchange of fire took place between a security forces convoy and terrorists in Hangu on September 20.
The ISPR said eight terrorists belonging to what it described as the India-sponsored Fitna-al-Khwarij were killed during the engagement.
Two officers leading their troops from the front were among the six personnel who were martyred in the intense exchange of fire.
The martyred officers were identified as Captain Abuzar Farooq, 23, from Gujranwala district, and Lieutenant Sheraz Babar, 22, from Chakwal district. Four other soldiers also embraced martyrdom during the operation.
The ISPR said sanitisation operations were underway in the area to eliminate any remaining terrorists.
It added that the counter-terrorism campaign under the Azm-i-Istehkam framework, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, would continue.
The military said security forces and law enforcement agencies remained committed to eliminating foreign-sponsored and foreign-supported terrorism from the country.
It added that the sacrifices of security personnel further demonstrated their commitment to protecting the country.
