Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir have departed for Switzerland to participate in technical-level discussions between the United States and Iran being held in Bürgenstock.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Pakistani leadership will take part in the talks scheduled for June 21 under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was recently agreed upon by Washington and Tehran, Geo News reported.

The discussions are aimed at advancing the implementation of commitments outlined in the memorandum and addressing technical aspects of the agreement. Pakistan and Qatar are serving as facilitators in the diplomatic process, which seeks to strengthen dialogue between the two sides and support broader regional stability.

Officials said Pakistan remains committed to playing a constructive mediating role and assisting efforts to ensure progress in the implementation of the understanding reached between the United States and Iran.

The Bürgenstock meeting is expected to bring together delegations from both countries, along with representatives from the mediating states, as diplomatic efforts continue to build on recent developments and maintain momentum in the negotiation process.

The participation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir underscores Pakistan’s growing role in facilitating dialogue and promoting peaceful resolution of regional disputes through diplomatic engagement.
