Authorities in Iran have arrested at least 50 individuals accused of passing sensitive information and locations to the “enemy,” according to a report by Al Jazeera citing the state-linked Student News Network (SNN).
The report said those detained were suspected of acting as “mercenaries” and collaborating with the United States and Israel by sharing details about strategic locations, including service facilities and key infrastructure.
Authorities reportedly confiscated electronic devices, satellite communication equipment and weapons during the arrests.
According to SNN, the latest detentions are part of a broader crackdown on alleged espionage activities during the recent conflict. Iranian officials have detained dozens of suspects on spying charges since hostilities escalated in the region.
The report noted that a similar wave of arrests took place following last year’s 12-day conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Under Iran’s recently tightened espionage laws, individuals found guilty of spying can face severe penalties, including the death sentence and confiscation of their assets.
